Masculinity

Society must bear the weight,

of men who cannot feel.

Always taught to fight and live,

but never how to feel.

Strength becomes the burden

(so hard to understand)

when everything is found at odds,

with all that we had planned.

We stand so tall and mighty,

and march into the fray.

Brave we face the enemy,

until we try to say:

“I’m broken and I need you.”

“Today was not my best.”

“Outwardly I seem okay,

but I just need to rest.”

“Hold me in my suffering.”

“Catch me when I fall.”

“Encourage me with kisses,

on the days I crawl."

These words that come like lightening

(swift and unapproved)

represent impossible,

a mountain to be moved.

Our manhood is immutable,

and carved into the stone.

Emblazoned with a single phrase:

“To ever stand alone.”
