A Braver Man than I
You sat there for a moment,
with eyes upon the wall.
A single drink within your hand,
but not ‘til final call.
I know it was unthinking,
(the smile offered there)
but to me it seemed the world,
…..so quietly I stare.
Never will you notice me,
or grow to know my name.
Lost and somehow out of place,
a lion fully tame.
Where others would approach you,
I fear to set the tone.
Unable to share simple things,
like numbers on a phone.
All of this was fleeting,
and meaningless to you.
So once again I sit alone,
to slowly fade from view.
You walk away to grander things,
and take away your light.
Leaving me to ponder on,
this never ending night.
Inaction is my enemy,
the thorn within my side.
Forced to say, and yet again,
“If only I had tried.”
