Suddenly Alone
Sitting in a crowded room,
yet seemingly alone.
While all my neighbors next to me
are playing on their phone.
Distracted as the world went by,
too busy for a glance,
when for all the world I hope
for one last fleeting chance.
To have, to hold, to contemplate,
the meaning of a smile.
To have you sitting next to me,
if only for a while.
Yet the moment came and went,
no courage for goodbye.
And to watch you walk away,
drew out a broken sigh.
Without the heart to chase you,
I pull out my cell phone,
to be another wanderer,
so suddenly alone.
