Silence Unintended

I find myself alone tonight

(a man without a voice)

longing for a day to come,

where I might have a choice.

Unbidden now, the words that come

(and dance upon my tongue)

burn with endless agony,

a song that’s never sung.

Yet silence is untenable

(a dagger in the night)

forced upon the wanderer,

and buried out of sight.

Words that seek to flood the air,

are stuck upon my heart.

Tied to countless broken dreams,

that seem to fall apart.

This tragedy, a mummer’s farce

(that plays out in my mind)

carries now a consequence,

with answers left to find.

Can I defeat the silence,

as nothing goes to plan?

For after all is said and done,

I’m only just a man.
