My Apples to Oranges

There are things we see,

most every single day.

They change the way we look at things,

and what we do or say.

So often they are commonplace

(and fly by crystal clear)

but garner only half a glance,

before they disappear.

My thoughts on this are varied,

although, so far from grand.

I promise that I’ll do my best,

to help you understand.

Depression is the flagship,

that guides my humble fleet.

And generates the many waves,

that knock me off my feet.

It proves to be the constant,

this Cowboy’s trusty steed.

To fill my life with sadness,

no matter what I need.

So often has it buried me,

that I no longer cry.

Just another rainy day,

where clouds have filled the sky.

So in my time of living,

I thought I’d seen it all.

Had climbed up every mountain,

and answered every call.

But then came something different,

another shade of gray.

That filled me with extreme surprise,

and sent me on my way.

Depression is a darkness

(dark for darkness sake)

while this was something lighter,

like frosting on a cake.

It seems a strange example,

a random turn of phrase.

But freeing to this little mouse,

no longer in his maze.

If Sorrow was your middle name

(and Loneliness your last)

small changes are significant,

when measured to your past.

So now I look on longingly,

and measure my new boss.

Justified by holy things,

I finally know loss.
