A Broken Mirror

Both my hands, held still:

a weapon at my side.

The blinding Truth of Day,

with nowhere left to hide.

An enemy in waiting,

poised to take my life.

Born of possibilities,

and fed by endless strife.

Its’ shape is unassuming,

(bound in plastic frame)

but with power, all consuming,

it calls upon my name.

“What you know is foolishness,

all your hopes a lie.

Nothing can be trusted,

beyond your failing eye.”

“The light you see is shattered,

and soon you’ve lost the race,

with nothing left for you to win,

in this, and every, case.”

“The goodness found within you,

is rotten to the core.

Never has it been enough,

you’ve always wanted more.”

Brazen in his speaking

(this enemy of mine)

Reflecting every ounce of pain,

my doubts and fears combine.

The Author of Transgression,

The Waves upon the Sea,

The hardest Truth of All,

My enemy, is me.
